Kefalonia, 5 In search of Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Cephallonia

Answer Secret Garden

They were in the British Cemetery.  Not exactly war graves, though most people buried there are from the original British occupation in the 19th Century. Most occupants died of disease and m ost of the tomb stones were subscribed by the relevant mess.   It is being restored but the slowness and funding is a matter of controversy.

It is worth a visit for the quiet sanctuary.  Go across the causeway from Argostoli and carry straight on, the Cemetery entrance is about  400 yards up on the right in the middle of a high wall.

Sticky fingers?  There is a large fig tree on south side.  Go in August and it is loaded with lush ripe syrupy figs.  Don't have too many though, the roads are very bad.
